Fresno PAL Helps Community with Funding from Pacific Service Credit Union Fresno, Calif., May 12, 2008 – Pacific Service Credit Union has donated $2,000 to the Fresno Police Activities League (PAL). The funds will be used for two PAL programs: Senior Movie Night and “Baby, Think It Over”.

San Jose Repertory Theatre Receives Funding from Pacific Service Credit Union Walnut Creek, Calif., May 5, 2008 – Pacific Service Credit Union recently donated $5,000 to the San Jose Repertory Theatre for the Red Ladder Theatre Company. Salvation Army Receives Computers From Local Credit Union Concord, Calif., April 21, 2008 – The Concord Corps of The Salvation Army recently received a donation of five computers from Pacific Service Credit Union. The computers will be used by children and senior-citizens for homework, basic computer familiarization and to enhance computer skills.

The credit union funded a $3,550 grant which the Officers will use to purchase stickers, coloring books, pencils and fingerprint kits. The Officers hand out these supplies when working with children in teaching them about the police department and giving safety tips.
“We support the work these officers undertake with the children of Fresno,” said Steve Punch, president of Pacific Service CU. “I’m pleased that our donation will allow the officers to purchase the supplies they need for their work in our community.”
The Crime Prevention Officers work throughout the City meeting with the managers of apartment complexes, day care providers, elementary schools, high schools, boy and girl scout programs, churches, and other community groups. At each event, the officers talk about the role of the police department, provide safety tips, and hand out badges, coloring books, and pencils to the children.
“Crime Prevention Officers are doing important work in our tougher neighborhoods through their outreach efforts,” said Dennis, Fresno Branch Manager of Pacific Service Credit Union. “I’m glad that we are able to contribute in a way that makes their jobs a little easier.”

Lindsay Wildlife Museum Receives Funding from Pacific Service Credit Union Walnut Creek, Calif., March 31, 2008 – To continue providing museum tours and educational outreach programs for economically disadvantaged schools, the Lindsay Wildlife Museum has received a $5,000 donation from Pacific Service Credit Union. The Museum will use the funds for programs in low-income schools in Contra Costa and Alameda counties and to augment classroom lesson plans.
The Museum’s program, called “Animals in the Classroom”, brings live animals and artifacts to schools for presentations and special educational events.

Pacific Service Credit Union Helps to Fight Elder Financial Abuse Walnut Creek, Calif., March 17, 2008 – For the sixth year in a row, Pacific Service Credit Union has donated $5,000 to Elder Financial Protection Network (EFPN). The San Francisco-based EFPN works to prevent financial abuse of elders through partnerships that build public awareness, drive community outreach and provide professional training.
“Financial abuse is on the rise among the elderly,” said Steve Punch, president of Pacific Service CU. “And we believe that it is our duty to work with programs like EFPN that protect the financial assets of those most vulnerable. We are proud to support their work."

Sanctuary Youth Project Receives Funding from Pacific Service Credit Union Fresno, Calif., March 10, 2008 – Pacific Service Credit Union announces that it has provided $5,000 to Fresno’s Sanctuary Youth Project. The funds will be used to provide food and hygiene kits for 3,500 runaway, homeless and displaced youth.
“We are proud to assist Sanctuary in providing critical services to homeless youth in our community,” explained Steve Punch, president of Pacific Service CU. “Sanctuary Youth Project is reaching these at-risk children by meeting their basic needs.”
The Sanctuary Youth Project serves runaway, homeless, and displaced youth in transitioning from adolescence to adulthood. The program provides nutritional support, basic shelter assistance, intervention, transportation to recreational activities, distribution of basic hygiene items, and referrals with other agencies and programs.

Oakland Seniors Receive Groceries from Pacific Service Credit Union Walnut Creek, Calif., February 11, 2008 – Senior citizens at Oakland’s Mercy Retirement & Care Center will receive grocery assistance thanks to a donation from Pacific Service Credit Union. The credit union’s contribution will provide 50 seniors with a 15-20 pound bag of groceries twice monthly for an entire year.

FresnoChildren Receive Helmets from Pacific Service Credit Union Fresno, Calif., February 11, 2008 – The safety of Fresno-area low-income children is the focus of a local credit union. Pacific Service Credit Union is a key sponsor in the Fresno Fire Chiefs Foundation’s “Helmets are Cool” program. The program places a supply of safety helmets on fire engines and trucks, so when firefighters see a child riding a bicycle or skating without a helmet they can stop and give out a free helmet.
“As a member of the Fresno Community, we are proud to support the Fresno Fire Chief’s Foundation’s ‘Helmets are Cool’ program,” said Steve Punch, President of Pacific Service CU. “It’s important for children and parents to understand that wearing a helmet while bicycling and skating can reduce the risk of head injury by as much as 85 percent.”
In addition to safety helmets, the Fresno Fire Chief's Foundation will provide posters of local heroes wearing a helmet for every classroom in the City and trading cards for each child who receives a helmet. The posters are part of the "Helmets are Cool" campaign. Local heroes featured include a firefighter, a police officer, a marine, Fresno State football and softball players, a motocross rider, and a PG&E construction worker.

Children’s Fairyland Field Trips Provided by Pacific Service Credit Union Walnut Creek, Calif., February 4, 2008 – More than 500 low-income children will be able to attend an educational field trip program thanks to a donation from Pacific Service Credit Union. The field trip program, offered by Oakland’s Children’s Fairyland, fosters and encourages youth reading skills.

Pacific Service Credit Union to Provide Free Tax Preparation Assistance Fresno, Calif., January 28, 2008 – For the second consecutive year, Pacific Service Credit Union will partner with the United Way of Fresno County to provide free tax preparation assistance for people with low to moderate income levels. The Fresno branch of Pacific Service CU will host United Way volunteers as they work with individuals on their tax returns and in applying for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The United Way volunteers will be based at the Pacific Service CU branch in Fresno (102 E. Nees Avenue) every Saturday from 9am-1pm. Program runs from February 2 – April 12.

Sonoma Students Learn About the Environment Thanks to Pacific Service Credit Union Walnut Creek, Calif., January 14, 2008– Pacific Service Credit Union has provided a $5,000 grant to the Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation for its interactive Environmental Discovery Center (EDC). Funds will be used to provide field trip scholarships to low-income students at elementary schools in Sonoma County.

Located in Santa Rosa’s Spring Lake Park, the Environmental Discovery Center (EDC) educates children about issues concerning the protection of Sonoma County’s environmental and ecological resources. The EDC’s life science programs include interactive exhibits and activities, and education on issues such as the importance of biodiversity to a balanced ecosystem, the preservation of habitat and the consequences of habitat loss, and the importance of water quality and water conservation.

THE BREAD PROJECT Receives Needed Equipment from Pacific Service Credit Union Walnut Creek, Calif., January 7, 2008 – THE BREAD PROJECT has received PCs, printers, software and supplies from Pacific Service Credit Union. Students of THE BREAD PROJECT will use the equipment to create resumes and conduct employment searches.
“We are delighted to assist an organization like THE BREAD PROJECT,” said Steve Punch, president of Pacific Service CU. “We appreciate the work they do for our Bay Area community to help educate individuals so the have the ability to earn a living wage.”
THE BREAD PROJECT is a nonprofit organization that trains low-income and unemployed people in the skills needed for entry-level commercial baking and cooking positions. In addition, THE BREAD PROJECT staff helps students find and retain jobs in the food service industry.
