Pacific Service Credit Union Bowls Strikes for Charity 

Vacaville, Calif., December 31, 2007 – On Friday, December 21, employees and friends of Pacific Service Credit Union joined others for the 5th annual Bowling for Children’s Charities event held at Stars Recreation Center in Vacaville. The event raised funds for the Solano Community Foundation to purchase and distribute toys and games to needy children in the Dixon, Fairfield and Vacaville areas. 

“We are delighted to work with the Solano Community Foundation,” said Steve Punch, president of Pacific Service CU. “The work they do to assist needy children in our Vacaville community is critical, especially during the holidays.”

The Solano Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization that assists donors by helping them turn their philanthropic objectives into action. Donations are strategically invested to safeguard principal and provide superior investment return. The funds are then donated to Solano area organizations.

“Bowling for children’s charities is a great event for a wonderful cause,” said Kim, Manager of Pacific Service CU’s Vacaville Branch. “We are always pleased to band together with other companies to help out. By working together we all contribute to the success of this program and we have a bit of fun, too.”

Pacific Service Credit Union Gives Back this Holiday Season
Organization will assist The Salvation Army, the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano County and the Bay Area Crisis Nursery 

Walnut Creek, Calif., December 10, 2007 Partnering with The Salvation Army this holiday season, Pacific Service Credit Union will bring holiday meals and toys to needy families for the seventh consecutive year. In addition, Pacific Service CU employees are contributing to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano County’s “Buy a Bag” program, The Salvation Army’s Toy Drive and the Bay Area Crisis Nursery’s Decorate a Tree program. 
 
“As a member of the communities we serve, we believe it’s important to give back,” said Steve Punch, President of Pacific Service CU. “In addition to our corporate giving, many of our employees understand the great need of those less fortunate and give their time and money to assist those who can use a helping hand during the holiday season.” 

The Salvation Army will be using Pacific Service Credit Union’s $25,000 donation to provide holiday baskets for nearly 600 low-income families throughout five counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Solano, Fresno and Sacramento. Each holiday basket will feed a family of four for week and also includes toys for children in the household.

 Pacific Service Credit Union Donates to Wildfire Relief Efforts 

Walnut Creek, Calif., December 3, 2007 – Pacific Service Credit Union has donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross to assist in ongoing relief efforts surrounding the recent wildfires in Southern California. 
 
“As a member of the credit union community with its longstanding tradition of ‘people helping people’, we feel it is appropriate to provide assistance to those impacted by the wildfires,” said Steve Punch, president of Pacific Service CU. “Working through the American Red Cross we can promptly assist those tragically impacted. Our best wishes and prayers are with those affected by these devastating blazes and to those who serve them in the aftermath.”
           
In late October and early November, 18 active wildfires simultaneously burned in a widespread area of Southern California. In the aftermath, over 500,000 acres, covering a seven county area, were burned displacing over half a million people. Over 1,500 homes were destroyed. Estimated property damages alone exceed $1 billion. President George W. Bush signed a major disaster declaration for Southern California and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in the seven counties impacted by the fires.  

Pacific Service CU has a history of disaster giving through the American Red Cross. In 2005 funds were donated for Hurricane Katrina relief and in 2001 for 9/11 relief efforts.

 Toddler Town Receives Equipment from Pacific Service Credit Union

 Fresno, Calif., November 19, 2007 – Pacific Service Credit Union has donated the funds needed to purchase two toddler-sized sinks for Children’s Hospital Central California’s Toddler Town program. Acquisition of the sinks was made possible by a donation from the Credit Union to the Easter Seals Child Development Center. The new sinks will be placed near the Toddler Town play structures, which were previously donated by Pacific Service CU in 2005. 
 
“As a member of the Fresno community, we are again delighted to partner with Easter Seals and Children’s Hospital,” said Steve Punch, president of Pacific Service CU. “The sinks can be used year-round, in conjunction with the play structures for developmental activities at the Center.”
 
“Easter Seals and Children’s Hospital Central California are pillars in the Fresno community,“ said Dennis, Manager of Pacific Service CU’s Fresno Branch. “The hospital and Easter Seals help thousands of families who could not afford medical care otherwise. In recognition of their service to our community, we always try to help, however we can.”
 
In 2003, Easter Seals Central California joined forces with Children’s Hospital and opened Children’s Hospital Center: An Easter Seals Child Development Center. The Center offers a developmentally based program for children of differing abilities from age eight weeks to six years old.

 Boys & Girls Club Thanks Local Credit Union

Vacaville, Calif., November 13, 2007 – Members of the Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club stopped by the Vacaville branch of Pacific Service Credit Union to thank the Credit Union for a recent donation. In June, the Credit Union donated $2,000 to the Club for a program called “Operation Connect.”
 
“We just wanted to show our appreciation for the donation from Pacific Service Credit Union,” said Montoya Graham, Executive Director of the Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club. “The Credit Union has been a long-time supporter of our efforts, and we can’t thank them enough.”
 
Through “Operation Connect”, Boys & Girls Club members will prepare for their future by learning how computers work, the types of opportunities computers provide and their role in modern society. The members will also utilize technology to enhance their intellectual development; and will develop their skills and motivation to explore careers in science and technology.

 Inaugural “Child Safety Day” Hosted by Pacific Service Credit Union

Vacaville, Calif., November 5, 2007– On Saturday, October 6, Pacific Service Credit Union welcomed more than 1,000 children and parents to its inaugural Child Safety Day. The event was held in the Credit Union’s Vacaville Branch and Community Room. Child Safety Day featured free DNA LifePrint kits, Child Safety Journals, and other valuable safety information. The event was also the first in Solano County to offer free Biometric Fingerprinting, the newest and most advanced technology available for obtaining fingerprints.
 
“Our Child Safety Day is a one-day event designed to promote safety awareness,” said Kim, Manager of Pacific Service CU’s Vacaville Branch. “We were overwhelmed by the great turn-out for our first year and we appreciate the participation of our community partners who provided important information to local families.” 
 
DNA LifePrint is the 21st century version of “fingerprint” identification, providing parents and guardians with a sample of a child’s DNA that can be preserved for up to 80 years. The Child Safety Journal includes an audio and digital video of each child. 
 
Other community partners participating in Child Safety Day, included: Vacaville Police Department, Solano County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, Solano County Car Seat Connection, Bike Helmet Safety Program, Vacaville Neighborhood Boys and Girls Club, and the Marine Mammal Center.

 $1 Million in Community Giving Surpassed by Pacific Service Credit Union

Walnut Creek, Calif., October 29, 2007 – Pacific Service Credit Union announces that it has surpassed $1 million in giving through its Community Involvement Program. Launched in 2001, to give back to the communities it serves, the Credit Union’s Community Involvement Program focuses on five major areas designated for charitable giving: children (especially those in at-risk and low-income areas); the American Red Cross; low-income credit unions; financial abuse prevention; and donations to recognize employee volunteer spirit. 

 “As a good corporate citizen it is our responsibility to do what we can to help in the communities we serve,” explained Tom Smigielski, president and CEO of Pacific Service CU. “We don’t ask our employees or our members to give. As a business, we take it upon ourselves to do what we can to better the lives of the less fortunate in our communities.”     

Over the past six years the Credit Union has touched the lives of more than 280,000 individuals through donations to hundreds of organizations, including: Children’s Hospital Oakland, Children’s Hospital of Central California, Marine Mammal Center, Huckleberry Youth Programs, the American Red Cross, the American Lung Association, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, YMCA programs, Open Heart Kitchen, Elder Financial Protection Network, Salvation Army, Lindsay Wildlife Museum, and many others.
 
“As board members, we take active roles in our Community Involvement Program,” said Charlie Diaz, Chairman of Pacific Service CU’s Board of Directors. “We worked with senior management to establish the program, we look for opportunities to give, and each month we review and approve funding requests. We have accomplished a great deal, but we know that there are still needs to be filled and we look forward to continuing our efforts in the communities we serve.”
 
Along with the Community Involvement Program, the Credit Union has returned more than $14 million in bonus rebates to its members – in 2006, the Credit Union returned nearly $1.4 million to members. In addition, the members of Pacific Service CU continued to enjoy high rates on savings, low rates on loans and the service convenience provided by the addition of new branches. Each year, the Credit Union sets aside funds available for the Community Involvement Program and never asks staff or members to contribute money.

 Students Benefit from Marine Life Program Funded by Pacific Service Credit Union

Walnut Creek, Calif., October 8, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union announces that it has given a $5,000 grant to The Marine Mammal Center for the organization’s Whale Bus outreach program. The grant will allow the Marine Mammal Center to bring marine science to schools in low income areas throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

“We are pleased to continue our support of The Marine Mammal Center for another year,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “For the last four years, we have funded the Whale Bus affording a unique, engaging and informative educational experience for young people to learn about marine science.”

With this grant, nearly 1,000 students will be able to enhance their education. From past funding of the Whale Bus program, the Credit Union has exposed nearly 5,000 children in the Bay Area to the wonders of marine sciences.

The Whale Bus is a traveling program that includes hands-on activities and marine mammal specimens, such as bones, pelts and baleen. Programs teach about the lives of marine mammals as well as the bigger picture of caring for the marine environment.

Annual Asthma Walk Sponsored by Pacific Service Credit Union

 

San Francisco, October 1, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union was corporate sponsor of the American Lung Association’s annual “Blow the Whistle on Asthma” Walks in San Francisco and Oakland, Calif. The San Francisco event took place in Golden Gate Park, the Oakland event took place at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park. Both events took place on Saturday, September 29. Hundreds of walkers on 50 teams participated in the 3-mile walks to raise funds for local asthma efforts.

“Each year nearly 4,000 Americans die from asthma,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “We are glad to continue our partnership with the American Lung Association of San Francisco and Alameda Counties to help raise funds and awareness to fight this disease that affects more than 22 million Americans.”

Pacific Service Credit Union To Host “Child Safety Day” in Vacaville

 

Vacaville, Calif., September 24, 2007– Today, Pacific Service Credit Union announces that it will host “Child Safety Day” at its Vacaville Branch on October 6. “Child Safety Day” will be the first community event in Solano County to offer free Biometric Fingerprinting, the newest and most advanced technology available for obtaining fingerprints. “Child Safety Day” is designed to provide important child safety information and tips to parents and guardians. The event will feature free DNA LifePrint kits, Child Safety Journals, representatives from local law enforcement and others involved in child safety. “Child Safety Day” will take place on Saturday, October 6 from 10am-3pm at 950 Mason Street, Vacaville, CA. The event is free to the public.

Biometric Fingerprinting is the newest and most advanced technology available for obtaining fingerprints. The Biometric Technology used in this program allows a child’s fingerprints to be immediately submitted into the FBI National Crime Information Database which makes this information immediately available to all law enforcement agencies throughout the United States.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters to have a special day thanks to Pacific Service Credit Union

 

Walnut Creek, Calif., September 24, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union has returned as the presenting sponsor of the annual picnic for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Bay Area. The event allows Big Brothers and Big Sisters to come together with their little brother/sister and to meet other volunteers and kids at a fun-filled day at a local park. This year, the event will take place on September 29 at Kennedy Grove Regional Recreation Area in Berkeley, Calif.

Support for Low-Income Sacramento Families Provided by Pacific Service Credit Union

 

Sacramento, Calif., September 10, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union has provided $5,000 in continued support for The Child and Family Opportunity Center’s “Community Store”. The Community Store stocks household necessities that many low-income families do without, such as personal hygiene products, cleaning products, baby formula, diapers and school supplies. Last year, Pacific Service CU funded the creation of “The Community Store”.

The Child and Family Opportunity Center is operated under the direction of the Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) of Sacramento, Inc. to serve low-income, at-risk families in the Arden-Arcade area. The Center has weekly programs including homework assistance, English as a Second Language instruction, nutrition, exercise and parenting skills classes. Participants attending programs and classes will receive Family Center Dollars, which can then be used to “purchase” items at The Community Store. The grant money from Pacific Service CU will be used by CAPC to stock The Community Store.

“Pacific Service Credit Union is pleased to provide continued funding for the Community Store,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “We support this program because it gives an incentive for families to take advantage of programs that assist in preventing child abuse and neglect, as well as enhance the school readiness of their children. 25th Annual Fresno Cross City Race Sponsored by Pacific Service Credit Union

 

Fresno, Calif., September 4, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union has returned as a sponsor of the 25th Annual Cross City Race. The Race, held on Sunday, September 9, benefits the St. Agnes Medical Center Cancer Services.

“As a member of the Fresno community, we are again delighted to sponsor the Fresno Cross City Race,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “St. Agnes provides unique and valuable services for our community like Footsteps, a support program for children and families dealing with grief and major life changes.”

The Cross City race began in 1982 and now draws a field of nearly 1,500 competitors each year. Events include 10K and 2-mile running, walking and wheelchair races, plus Kids Races (ages 3-12).

Pacific Service Credit Union sponsors 2007 Walk to Cure Diabetes

 

Walnut Creek, Calif., August 20, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union today announces a $10,000 donation to the 2007 Greater Bay Area Walk to Cure Diabetes for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Of the funds raised from Walk events, 85% goes directly to research efforts to find a cure. The 2006 Walk raised more than $2.6 million.

“This is the sixth year that Pacific Service Credit Union has sponsored the Walk to Cure Diabetes," said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “JDRF provides support and advocacy services to families in our community that are dealing with juvenile diabetes, a disease affecting more than 17 million Americans.”

The Greater Bay Area Walk events will take place in San Francisco, Walnut Creek, Napa, Sonoma and Pacific Grove.

Pacific Service Credit Union Helps Children with Summer Safety

 

Walnut Creek, Calif., August 13, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union has provided a $5,000 grant to the Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County (CAP Sonoma) for its Project SAFE Summer program. The project helps disadvantaged youth ages 6 to16 from low-income neighborhoods in Santa Rosa learn environmental stewardship, swimming and boating safety, career exploration and community service.

“We are pleased to support Project SAFE Summer program for the fourth year,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “As a member of the Sonoma County community, we understand the need to provide a safe, fun and educational experience for children. Not only do the kids learn about water and outdoor safety, they develop teamwork and leadership skills.”

Pacific Service CU has provided nearly $21,000 to Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County for youth outreach programs since 2004.

Abused and Neglected Kids Get Help from Pacific Service Credit Union

 

Walnut Creek, Calif., July 30, 2007– Today, Pacific Service Credit Union announces a donation of Internet-ready computers to Youth Homes, Inc., of Contra Costa County. Youth Homes serves abused, neglected, and delinquent children by providing comprehensive group-home treatment programs and therapeutic services. With this donation every group home operated by Youth Homes will have a computer.

“As a member of the Contra Costa community, we are proud to support Youth Homes,” said Tom Smigielski, President of Pacific Service CU. “This organization works to help make a difference in the lives of children that have been subjected to abuse and neglect.”

The computers donated by the Credit Union are Pentium 4 processors with flat panel monitors. The computers will be used to improve computer skills, aid in homework assignments and facilitate communication activities.

Pacific Service Credit Union Donates to the Shih-Yu Lang Central YMCA of San Francisco

 

San Francisco, July 23, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union announces that it has made a $5,000 donation to the Shih-Yu Lang Central YMCA of San Francisco. The funds will be used to afford the most needy youth members to participate in programs for education, leadership development and social activities. The Credit Union will also donate surplus computers to the organization.

Walnut Creek, Calif. July 9, 2007– On July 14, thousands of yellow rubber ducks will be racing to the finish line on Oakland’s Lake Merritt at the 16th Rubber Ducky Derby, benefiting Children’s Hospital and Research Center Oakland. Pacific Service Credit Union returns as a corporate sponsor of the 2007 Annual Rubber Ducky Derby.

“We have been a sponsor of the Rubber Ducky Derby since 2001,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “We are proud to partner with Children’s Hospital. We support its philosophy of providing medical treatment for children, regardless of repayment for the treatment received.”

Pacific Service CU has donated more than $75,000 to Children’s Hospital and Research Center Oakland since 2001. Children’s Hospital and Research Center at Oakland is the most comprehensive children’s diagnostic facility in the western U.S.

Needy Children Receive Toys from Pacific Service Credit Union

Walnut Creek, Calif., December 17, 2007 – Needy children in the East Bay will receive holiday toys from the Hispanic Youth Theater, thanks to Pacific Service Credit Union. For the third consecutive year, Pacific Service CU has donated funds to the annual toy drive. The 2007 donation will provide 2,500 toys. 
 
“For more than 55 years, the Hispanic Youth Theater has served children in our Alameda County community,” said Steve Punch, President of Pacific Service CU. “We are proud to support their efforts to brighten the holidays for children in less fortunate circumstances.”
 
The Hispanic Youth Theater serves low-income, at-risk children in Alameda County. The theater is part of the Children’s Theatre Limited which was founded in 1953 as a non-profit community-based theater.

The event, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. was held in the Credit Union’s Fresno branch and Community Room. Spring Into Safety featured free DNA LifePrint kits, Child Safety Journals, and other valuable safety information for every child.

“Our annual Spring into Safety Day is a one-day event that is designed to promote safety awareness,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “We appreciate the participation of our community partners public safety, health and education to provide families with vital information for child safety.”

Pacific Service Credit Union Supports San Jose Repertory Theatre’s Red Ladder Theatre Company

 

Walnut Creek, Calif. April 30, 2007– Today, Pacific Service Credit Union announces a donation of $5,000 for the San Jose Repertory Theatre for continued support of the Red Ladder Theatre Company. The Red Ladder Theatre Company works with underserved and disadvantage communities to improve and enrich lives through theater arts.

“As a member of the San Jose community, we are again delighted to sponsor San Jose Repertory Theatre’s Red Ladder Theatre Company,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “We are glad to support these organizations, which provide a positive outlet for underserved and at-risk communities.”

Red Ladder Theatre Company is the social outreach branch of San Jose Repertory Theatre, which was formed in 1992. Pacific Service Credit Union has supported the organization for the past three years.

Pacific Service Credit Union Supports Youth and Seniors through the Fresno Police Activities League

 

Fresno, Calif. April 23, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union has donated $4,800 to the Fresno Police Activities League (PAL). The funds will be used for three PAL programs: Senior Movie Night, “Baby Think It Over”, and KING Leadership.

“As a member of the Fresno community, we are pleased to continue our support of Fresno PAL,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “Their efforts help to improve the lives of youth and seniors.”

The donation from Pacific Service CU will be used to fund Senior Movie Night, where young people assist senior citizens with yard work, lifting heavy objects, and washing windows and then accompany the senior citizens as they enjoy movies; “Baby Think It Over”, which teaches youth about the emotional, physical and financial ramifications of becoming a teen parent; and the KING Leadership program, which focuses on teaching young people about volunteering in their community by helping to clean up low-income Fresno neighborhoods.

Pacific Service Credit Union Helps The Perinatal Council

 

Walnut Creek, Calif. April 17, 2007– Today, Pacific Service Credit Union announces a donation of $2,000 to The Perinatal Council. The Perinatal Council provides services in Alameda and Contra Costa counties to support healthy births and successful development in children ages 0-5.

“As a member of the Alameda and Contra Costa county communities, we are pleased that we can assist The Perinatal Council,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “This is a great organization that helps the most vulnerable members of our society, young children.”

The donation will be used to purchase toys, books, musical instruments and other materials for new play groups in the city of Antioch. The play groups will help parents learn to care for themselves and their babies under the guidance of child care workers.

Pacific Service Credit Union Helps Special Needs Children

 

Walnut Creek, Calif. April 9, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union has made a financial contribution that will assist at-risk special needs children at Concord, Calif.-based WeCare Services for Children. The Credit Union’s contribution will fund needed therapy equipment for children who are diagnosed with multiple handicaps, autism, pervasive development disorder, Down syndrome and other afflictions.

“In order for these kids to learn to walk, they need unique equipment,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “As a member of the Concord community, we are pleased to be able to provide the necessary supplies so WeCare Services can do their work for these special children.”

WeCare Services for Children was founded in 1960 and works with special needs children, ages birth-5. The organization assists children who are victims of child abuse and/or family violence, or have developmental disabilities and delays, such as autism, Down syndrome and Fragile X.

Pacific Service Credit Union Assists Youth & Family Services of Solano County

 

Walnut Creek, Calif. April 2, 2007– Youth and Family Services of Solano County will receive two Internet-ready computers, printers and funds to sponsor “Independent City” from Pacific Service Credit Union. Youth and Family Services of Solano County helps at-risk members of the Solano community, primarily foster children.

“As a member of the Solano County community, we are proud to support Youth and Family Services,” said Tom Smigielski, President of Pacific Service CU. “This organization helps young people develop the inner strength and life skills they need to form productive relationships and be responsible citizens. We support their mission.”

Credit Union will donate two surplus computers with Pentium 4 processors and flat panel monitors, bundled with printers. The computers will be used to improve the foster youth’s computer skills and aid in homework assignments and job searches. Pacific Service CU will also support the organization’s “Independent City” program. “Independent City” teaches youth what the “real world” is like after leaving foster care at age 18. During the program, they learn about finances (including banking and budgeting), renting an apartment, getting a driver’s license, taking college classes, and working.

Pacific Service Credit Union Remains Committed to Elder Financial Abuse Prevention

 

Fresno, Calif. March 26, 2007– For the fifth year in a row, Pacific Service Credit Union has donated $5,000 to Elder Financial Protection Network (EFPN). The Novato-based EFPN works to prevent financial abuse of elders through partnerships that build public awareness, direct community outreach and provide professional training.

“Due to the victim's embarrassment, fear of loss of independence, intimidation by the perpetrator, and widespread lack of awareness that it is a crime, financial abuse is one of the most under-reported crimes,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “As a financial institution, we feel it is vital to work with programs like EFPN that protect the financial assets of those at risk. We are proud to support these worthwhile efforts."

“The commitment of Pacific Service CU has had a tremendous impact in raising awareness about the crime of elder financial abuse,” stated Executive Director of EFPN Jenefer Duane. “Since 2003, the Credit Union has donated more than $25,000 to our efforts, including sponsorship of free community workshops and training for seniors and law enforcement, the financial industry and adult social services professionals throughout Northern California.”

Pacific Service Credit Union Partners with American Red Cross to Offer Free CPR Classes

 

Fresno, Calif. March 19, 2007– Today, Pacific Service Credit Union announces that it is supporting the efforts of the Fresno-Madera Chapter of the American Red Cross to offer free CPR Preparedness training for the City of Selma. The training is being offered as part of the Red Cross’s 2007 CPR Preparedness Saturday events. The training in Selma will take place on Saturday, March 24, 2007.

“We believe that education can help save lives and when it’s offered at no cost, you increase the likelihood that people will participate,” said Tom Smigielski, President of Pacific Service CU. “This is a great program and we are proud to continue our support the Fresno-Madera Chapter of the American Red Cross in their efforts.”

ABOUT CPR PREPAREDNESS SATURDAY

Preparedness Saturday is a FREE 4.5 hour CPR and preparedness training course hosted by the Fresno-Madera Chapter of the American Red Cross. Participants will learn adult CPR, rescue breathing, and how to better prepare for disasters. After successfully completing a written test and a hands-on skills test, participants will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Adult CPR (valid for one year). Classes are being offered in both English and Spanish.

Pacific Service Credit Union Sponsors Fresno Kids Day

 

Fresno, Calif. March 13, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union is a “Big Kid” sponsor of the 20th Annual Kids Day event on Tuesday, March 20th. More than 3,500 volunteers from six Central Valley counties will sell a special $1 Kids Day edition of The Fresno Bee. Funds raised benefit Children’s Hospital Central California.

“As a member of the Fresno community, we are again delighted to sponsor Kids Day for the seventh consecutive year,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. “We are glad to support Children’s Hospital, which provides pediatric medical care to more than 100,000 children throughout Central California each year.”

Children’s Hospital Foundation Development Coordinator Peggy Dunlap appreciates the generous support from Pacific Service CU. “The Credit Union has contributed more than $35,000 to the Kids Day fundraising efforts since 2001,” she explained. “Proceeds from the sale of the newspapers go directly to pediatric health care services and programs at Children’s Hospital. Our community partners make these vital health services possible for families who cannot afford healthcare.”

A record number of newspapers were sold in 2006 and more than $354,000 was raised for Children’s Hospital Central California. Kids Day is a joint project between The Fresno Bee, ABC 30 and Children’s Hospital Central California. Since its beginning in 1988, the Kids Day campaign has raised more than $2.4 million for Children's Hospital Central California.

Pacific Service Credit Union Partners with American Red Cross Bay Area for CPR Saturday

 

Walnut Creek, Calif. February 26, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union has donated $5,000 to the American Red Cross Bay Area to support 2007 CPR Preparedness Saturday events. CPR Preparedness Saturday is an annual event where the Red Cross provides free CPR training at various locations around the Bay Area. The events take place on Saturday, March 3, 2007.

“We have supported the Bay Area CPR Saturday event for the past five years because we believe that proper education helps save lives,” said Tom Smigielski, President of Pacific Service CU. “This is a great program and we are proud to support the American Red Cross, Bay Area in their efforts.”

Pacific Service Credit Union Helps Teach Children About Animals and the Environment

 

Walnut Creek, Calif. February 20, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union has donated $5,000 to the Lindsay Wildlife Museum for the Animals in the Classroom program. The donation will be used to provide museum tours and outreach programs for economically disadvantaged schools in Contra Costa and Alameda Counties.

“Programs like Animals in the Classroom offer children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to learn about the world in which they live due to lack of funds,” said Tom Smigielski, President of Pacific Service CU. “Lindsay Wildlife Museum has created a program that reaches out to low-income children with live animals and artifacts and helps them increase their understanding of the environment and meets scholastic course requirements, and we are pleased to be able to support their efforts.”

Pacific Service Credit Union has partnered with the Lindsay Wildlife Museum to bring educational programs to low-income school since 2002. The Credit Union has sponsored dinosaur exhibits, wildlife science tours, outreach programs, and other projects. Since 2002, Pacific Service has donated more than $20,000 to Lindsay Wildlife Museum.

Pacific Service Credit Union Helps Provide Meals for At-Risk Children

 

Walnut Creek, Calif. February 12, 2007– Pacific Service Credit Union has donated $2,500 to Huckleberry Youth Programs for their “Dinner at Huckleberry’s” program. The money will be used to provide meals and snacks for more than 300 runaway and homeless youth at the Huckleberry Youth Program shelters in San Francisco and Marin Counties.

"We are please to be able to support the efforts of Huckleberry House," said Tom Smigielski, President of Pacific Service CU. “Having resources like Huckleberry House is so important for kids who feel they have no alternatives to avoid homelessness or running away.”

Huckleberry House is one of the oldest programs for runaway and homeless youth in the country. Program goals are to alleviate problems of runaway and homeless youth by providing 24-hour crisis intervention and resolution services, reunite the youth with their families, empower youth to identify healthy lifestyle alternatives and develop positive decision-making.
