Pacific Service Credit Union Gives to Needy Families During the Holiday Season

 

Walnut Creek, Calif. December 11, 2006– During this holiday season, Pacific Service Credit Union is teaming up with a variety of organizations in order to provide holiday meals, toys and Christmas trees to needy families. The Credit Union donated $22,500 to the Salvation Army, and Pacific Service CU employees are contributing to the Contra Costa Food Bank, Salvation Army and the Bay Area Crisis Nursery.

During this holiday season, Pacific Service Credit Union is teaming up with a variety of organizations in order to provide holiday meals, toys and Christmas trees to needy families. "As a member of the Bay Area community, we believe that it's important to do our part to assist those in need, especially during the holiday season," said Tom Smigielski, President of Pacific Service CU. "Many of our employees feel the same way and give their time and money to help those less fortunate."

The Salvation Army will be using Pacific Service CU’s donation to provide holiday baskets for nearly 600 families throughout the following counties: Marin, Napa, Sonoma, Placer, Sacramento and Santa Clara. Each holiday basket will feed a family of four for one week and also includes toys for the children.

Pacific Service Credit Union Helps Hispanic Youth Theater Give Toys to Needy Children

 

Walnut Creek, Calif. December 4, 2006– For the second year, Pacific Service Credit Union has joined with Oakland’s Hispanic Youth Theater in providing toys to needy children in Oakland’s Fruitvale area. This year, Pacific Service CU has donated $2,200, to provide approximately half of the toys needed for the 2006 holiday toy program.

"We are proud to be a returning partner to the Hispanic Youth Theater," said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. "We support their efforts to brighten the holidays for low-income families in our Alameda County community."

Hispanic Youth Theater serves low-income, at-risk children in Oakland’s Fruitvale district. The theater is part of the Children’s Theatre Limited which was founded in 1953 as a non-profit community-based theater.

Coats for Kids Gets Assistance from Pacific Service Credit Union

 

Fresno, Calif. November 29, 2006– Winter is here and tens of thousands of needy families are now having to make an untenable choice--feeding their children or giving them a winter coat. To help fill the need, the Fresno branch of Pacific Service Credit Union is joining with KISS Country and KSEE24 to collect 15,000 coats, as part of the 17th Annual Coats for Kids program.

"Giving a child a winter coat has a dramatic and measurable impact on a child's self-esteem, on their participation in school and school activities, and in their ability to learn," said Tom Smigielski, President of Pacific Service CU. "As a member of the Fresno community, we believe that it’s important to assist those in need, especially during the cold and rainy winter months."

Pacific Service Credit Union Donates to Technology for Kids program

 

Walnut Creek, Calif. October 23, 2006– Pacific Service Credit Union has awarded the Berkeley-Albany YMCA a $4,250 grant. The grant will fund the Y-Scholars program which helps low-income Berkeley High School students achieve the dream of furthering their education. The Y-Scholars Program provides mentorship and tutoring to Berkeley High students who are the first generation of their families with plans to continue their education beyond high school to attend a college or trade school.

"The Y-Scholars program addresses the unique challenges facing at-risk and low-income youth who dream of bettering their future through advanced education," said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. "As a member of the Alameda County community, we are proud to support the Berkeley-Albany YMCA with resources to help Y-Scholars participants gain the skills and knowledge to succeed in school and life."

Students participating in the four-year program face economic, social or educational challenges. The Y-Scholars Program provides guidance and resources to help the students pursue post-secondary education. Participants receive tutoring, group peer support, individualized academic and career counseling, college preparation assistance, enrichment courses and leadership development training.

Pacific Service Credit Union Donates to Technology for Kids program

 

Walnut Creek, Calif. October 16, 2006– With a $5,000 grant from Pacific Service Credit Union, the Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County (CAP Sonoma) has been able to purchase the equipment needed to launch their new Technology for Kids Project. The new program offers 200 youth, who attend CAP’s South Park Youth Center, the ability to experience technology first-hand. CAP used the grant money to purchase computers, software and Internet access.

Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County works with low income families and individuals to help them achieve economic and social stability; to build community, and to advocate for social and economic justice in Sonoma County.

"As a member of the Sonoma County community, we are proud to partner with CAP Sonoma to equip underprivileged youth with tools that will benefit them in school, work and life," said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.

Pacific Service Credit Union Provides Grant for Creation of "The Community Store"

 

Sacramento, Calif. October 10, 2006– Pacific Service Credit Union has provided a $5,000 grant for the creation of a new program at the Child and Family Opportunity Center, called “The Community Store.” The Child and Family Opportunity Center is operated under the direction of the Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) of Sacramento, Inc. to serve low-income, at-risk families in the Sacramento area. The Community Store will stock household necessities that many low-income families do without, such as personal hygiene products, cleaning products, baby formula, diapers and school supplies.

The Child and Family Opportunity Center has weekly programs including homework assistance, English as a Second Language instruction, nutrition, exercise and parenting skills classes. Participants attending programs and classes will receive Family Center Dollars, which can then be used to "purchase" items at The Community Store. The grant money from Pacific Service CU will be used by CAPC to stock The Community Store.

"Pacific Service Credit Union is pleased to be able to provide funds for the creation of The Community Store," said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. "This program provides an incentive for families to take advantage of the CAPC’s programs to prevent child abuse and neglect, as well as enhance the school readiness of their children. Pacific Service Credit Union donates to YMCA youth program

 

San Francisco, CA, September 25, 2006–Thanks to a $5,000 grant from Pacific Service Credit Union, teens in San Francisco’s poorest neighborhood can find respite at the Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA. The YMCA’s Tenderloin Youth Development Program offers a Technology Center, job preparedness, college preparation assistance and sports leagues. The Credit Union’s donation allows the YMCA to waive program fees for many of its 300 participants.

"As a member of the San Francisco community, we welcome the opportunity to support a program benefiting the city’s disadvantaged youth," said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU. "We are pleased to partner with Shih Yu-Lang YMCA again in 2006 to equip low-income, at-risk youth with the knowledge, resources and skills to be successful and productive members of the community."

Pacific Service Credit Union donates to Scoutreach Program

 

Fresno, CA, August 7, 2006 – A $2,500 grant from Pacific Service Credit Union will enable Sequoia Council of Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to offer the Scoutreach Program to at-risk youth in rural and low income areas of Fresno with little exposure to Scouting. 

 

“We are proud to partner with Boy Scouts again in 2006,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “The Scoutreach Program offers opportunities for young people to build character, experience teamwork, and develop life skills through hands-on learning with positive role models.”

Pacific Service Credit Union helps reward kids with Camp

 

Fresno, CA, July 25, 2006 – Thanks to a $5,000 grant from Pacific Service Credit Union, Fresno County school children will be rewarded with a trip to camp this summer.  The donation to the Sheriff’s Foundation for Public Safety will enable low-income at-risk children in grades K-5 to attend the week-long Camp Reward at Lake Sequoia in the Sierras.      

 

Part of the Elementary School Safety Program (ESSP), Camp Reward provides positive reinforcement and leadership training to students who have participated in ESSP, a drug awareness program offered in 50 Fresno County schools.  The ESSP curriculum promotes positive relationships with law enforcement while teaching substance abuse, violence and gang prevention. 

 

“As a member of the Fresno County community, we are proud to partner with the Sheriff’s Foundation to send kids to Camp Reward,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  Camp Reward offers a fun week that reinforces ESSP lessons about safety, resisting drugs and preventing violence.”  

 

According to the Foundation’s Executive Director Lt. Phil Caporale, more than 200 children benefit from attending Camp Reward.  “The students participate in a variety of camp activities including boating, swimming, hiking, rappelling and crafts.  They also learn new skills in communication, leadership and substance abuse prevention,” Caporale explained.  “We appreciate Pacific Service CU’s support to reward these special kids with an unforgettable camp experience.”

Pacific Service Credit Union donates to Youth Credit Union Program

 

San Francisco, CA, July 18, 2006 – Pacific Service Credit Union has provided a $4,700 grant to Youth Credit Union Program (YCUP).  The only youth-run credit union in California, YCUP serves 500 youth from low-income neighborhoods in San Francisco’s Mission District. The funds will be used for computer equipment, program supplies and YCUP’s financial literacy outreach efforts. 

 

“We are pleased to support YCUP in its efforts to equip low-income youth with the knowledge and resources to become economically self-sufficient and financially literate members of the community,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “We appreciate YCUP’s unique programs and services including job skills, financial literacy workshops and peer training in personal finance.”

Fresno, CA, July 11, 2006 – Thanks to a $3,000 donation from Pacific Service Credit Union, Fresno Police Activities League (PAL) has funding for its intervention programs.  Programs targeting underserved youth ages 7 to 14 include the Buddies mentorship program, Baby Think It Over, Youth Leadership Council and Sponsor a PAL.

 

“Fresno PAL makes a difference in the lives of hundreds of at-risk youth every year by providing good role models to teach valuable life skills,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “As a member of the Fresno community, we are glad to support PAL’s efforts to develop positive relationships between youth and law enforcement personnel.”

 

The Buddies program matches at-risk youth with adults for one-on-one mentoring.  Baby Think It Over is an eight-week pregnancy prevention program that presents the ramifications of becoming a teen parent.  Youth Leadership Council (YLC) provides community service opportunities to develop leadership skills.  The YLC adopted the Senior Citizens Village as its main project, offering outdoor maintenance and a monthly movie night for the seniors.  Sponsor a PAL pays program fees for youth who cannot afford the costs.

 

“Pacific Service CU has generously supported our youth programs and community outreach since 2003,” stated PAL Director, Sgt. Mike Doyle.  “Community partners like the Credit Union help us offer community-based intervention as an alternative to drugs and gangs.”

Pacific Service Credit Union helps kids with summer safety

 

Santa Rosa, CA, July 10, 2006 – Pacific Service Credit Union has provided a $5,000 grant to Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation for its SAFE Summer/Swim Safe program targeting disadvantaged youth ages 6 to16.  The safety education program is offered free of charge to children from low-income neighborhoods in Santa Rosa, in collaboration with Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County.

 

“We are pleased to support the SAFE Summer/Swim Safe program for the third year,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “As a member of the Sonoma County community, we commend the Regional Parks Foundation for providing a safe, fun and educational experience for children.  Not only do the kids learn about water and outdoor safety, they develop teamwork and leadership skills.”

 

According to Executive Director Mary Jo Delos, support from community partners like Pacific Service CU enable the children to enjoy a variety of activities including nature hikes, game days, craft projects, swimming, fishing and camping. 

 

“The Credit Union’s generous support since 2004 has allowed us to expand the SAFE Summer program to reach more than 500 children and add another location,” Delos stated.  “The kids can participate in healthful and educational activities where they develop skills to resist drugs, gangs and violence.”

Pacific Service Credit Union puts surplus computers to good use

 

Walnut Creek, CA, July 3, 2006 – Pacific Service Credit Union has donated 30 personal computers to five organizations focused on assisting low income, at-risk children.  

 

The computers were donated to Fresno Police Activities League, Shih-Yu Lang Central YMCA (San Francisco), Youth Credit Union Program (San Francisco), Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club and Community Action Partnership of Sonoma.  All the organizations have youth mentorship, tutoring or computer literacy programs.  The organizations happily discovered that the Credit Union’s surplus computers were high-memory units, with Pentium 4 processors and flat panel monitors. 

 

“Pacific Service CU works at continually improving our technology to provide superior service, thus freeing some nice computer systems for very worthy programs,” said Tom Smigielski, president of the Credit Union.  “We also understand that budget constraints mean many charitable organizations cannot afford to upgrade computer systems for their youth and technology programs.”

 

Montoya Graham, executive director of Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club, couldn’t wait to show the computers to the kids at the Club.  “Some of the computers in our homework and tutoring programs are pretty dated," Graham explained.  “The kids will be really excited to use these fast, upgraded systems with the high-tech monitors.  The donation will also enable us to expand our Club Tech program.”

Pacific Service Credit Union outfits Red Ladder Theatre Company

 

Walnut Creek, CA, June 19, 2006 – New costumes and props will enhance the learning experience for students in Red Ladder Theatre Company workshops, thanks to a $5,000 grant from Pacific Service Credit Union.  Red Ladder, San Jose Repertory Theatre’s primary social outreach program, is a nationally recognized theatre arts education program that works with at-risk children and schools serving low-income populations.  

 

“As a member of the Santa Clara County community, we are glad to support this unique educational program for the second year,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “Red Ladder reaches more than 1,600 at-risk students annually, encouraging teamwork, artistic expression and self-confidence.”

Pacific Service Credit Union provides riding equipment for Halleck Creek

 

Walnut Creek, CA, June 13, 2006 – A grant of $2,500 from Pacific Service Credit Union will provide specialized riding equipment to accommodate the growing number of disabled children participating in Halleck Creek Institute’s riding therapy program.    

 

“For almost 25 years, Halleck Creek has provided therapeutic horseback riding, free of charge, to disabled residents of the Bay Area,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “As a member of the Marin County community, we are proud to support this unique program and the help it provides to families, particularly young children with disabilities.”

According to Director Julie Cassel, more than 2,000 disabled children participate in therapy at Halleck Creek Institute each year.  “The number of youth riders has grown tremendously over the past few years.  Pacific Service CU’s donation allowed us to purchase equipment to provide a safer, more comfortable experience for our young riders,” stated Cassel.

Walnut Creek, CA, June 12, 2006 – On June 25, thousands of yellow rubber ducks will be racing to the finish line on Oakland’s Lake Merritt at the 2006 Rubber Ducky Derby, benefiting Children’s Hospital Oakland.  Pacific Service Credit Union is a corporate sponsor of the 15th Annual Rubber Ducky Derby.

Pacific Service Credit Union sponsors 2006 Walk to Cure Diabetes

 

Fresno, CA, May 30, 2006 – Pacific Service Credit Union was a corporate sponsor of the 2006 Fresno Walk to Cure Diabetes for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).  This year’s Walk to Cure raised more than $55,000 and was held on Sunday, May 7, at Woodward Park.

 

“This is the fifth year that Pacific Service Credit Union has sponsored the Walk to Cure Diabetes," said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “JDRF provides support and advocacy services to families in our community that are dealing with juvenile diabetes, a disease affecting more than 17 million Americans.”

Pacific Service Credit Union fills Head Start school bags

 

Fresno, CA, May 08, 2006 – A donation from Pacific Service Credit Union provided $20,000 in school supplies for more than 3,000 children enrolled in Fresno County Economic Opportunities Commission (EOC) Head Start.  

 

“Head Start is a family-focused program that gives low-income children a good foundation of early learning and development,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “We are pleased to partner with Head Start to make a difference in these young lives.”

 

Each Head Start student’s school bag contains basic educational supplies including pencils, crayons, rulers, coloring book and reading books.  In addition, each child gets a piggy bank to teach them the importance of saving.

Pacific Service Credit Union makes future bright at Boys & Girls Club

 

Walnut Creek, CA, April 25, 2006 – Thanks to a donation from Pacific Service Credit Union, the future is looking bright at Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club.  A $5,000 grant from the Credit Union will enable the Boys & Girls Club’s to realize its Futures Project vision, a computer literacy and college preparation program.  The funds will be used for the purchase of computers and equipment to benefit more than 100 youth annually.

 

“As a member of the Solano County community, we are proud to support the worthwhile efforts of the Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club in Vacaville,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “The funding we are providing for the Futures Project is a positive step to assist high school students in achieving their dreams of attending college.”

  

For many Club members, access to a computer or to the library is an almost impossible challenge, according to Executive Director Montoya Graham.  “Teaching our kids how to use computers responsibly is the first step in the Futures Project,” Graham stated.  “Next, we want to prepare our boys and girls for the future by helping them meet high school graduation requirements and guiding them through the myriad of college financial aid, scholarship and application information.”

Pacific Service Credit Union renews commitment to elder financial abuse prevention

Walnut Creek, CA, April 18, 2006 – Pacific Service Credit Union has donated $5,000 to Elder Financial Protection Network (EFPN) for education, training and community awareness efforts in Northern California.  The Novato-based EFPN is nationally recognized for developing partnerships among law enforcement agencies, adult social service providers and financial institutions to prevent the financial exploitation of California’s elderly citizens and dependent adults.

“More than 250,000 cases of elder abuse are reported annually in California, and over 40% of those cases are identified as financial abuse,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “We are proud to support the efforts of EFPN.  As a financial institution, we feel it is vital to actively participate in programs working to protect the financial assets of those at risk."

“The commitment of Pacific Service CU has had a tremendous impact in raising awareness about the crime of elder financial abuse,” stated Executive Director of EFPN Jenefer Duane.  “Since 2003, the Credit Union has donated more than $20,000 to our financial abuse prevention efforts, including sponsorship of free community workshops and training for several hundred seniors and law enforcement, the financial industry and adult social services professionals throughout Northern California.”

Pacific Service Credit Union helps students learn about the environment

 

Walnut Creek, CA, April 10, 2006 – Pacific Service Credit Union has provided a $2,500 grant to the Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation for its interactive Environmental Discovery Center (EDC) located in Santa Rosa’s Spring Lake Park.  Funds will be used to provide field trip scholarships to low-income elementary schools in Sonoma County.    

 

“As a member of the Sonoma County community, we are happy to partner with Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation’s education programs,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “The EDC offers a unique educational experience where students can participate in hands-on exhibits and activities to help them understand the relationship of science, conservation and the environment.”

Pacific Service Credit Union aids youth medical clinic

 

San Francisco, CA, April 4, 2006 – Pacific Service Credit Union has provided a $4,500 grant to the St. Anthony’s Foundation Free Medical Clinic for its youth health programs.  The Free Medical Clinic serves low-income, at-risk youth without health insurance or access to critical health services.  Funds will be used for the children’s vaccination program and the childhood diabetes prevention program.      

 

“We are glad to partner with the St. Anthony Foundation to provide essential medical care to low income and at-risk children in our community,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “We welcome the opportunity to support a program benefiting San Francisco’s disadvantaged youth.”

 

“Our patients are medically underserved due to economic, linguistic or cultural barriers,“ stated Foundation Director of Development & Communications Barry Stenger.  “Our youth health programs would not be possible without the generosity of community partners like Pacific Service CU.  The support will provide children with the vaccinations, nutrition counseling and health education services they need.”

Pacific Service Credit Union hosts Spring into Safety Day

 

Fresno, CA, March 28, 2006 – Pacific Service Credit Union welcomed more than 500 children and parents to Spring into Safety Day on Saturday, March 25.  The event, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Community Room of the Credit Union’s Fresno branch, featured free DNA LifePrint kits and Child Safety Journals for every child.

 

“The Spring into Safety Day program provided families with vital information for child safety,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “We appreciate the participation of public safety, health and education agencies to provide resources and education to keep children in our community safe.” 

 

The DNA LifePrint kit is the 21st century version of “fingerprint” identification, providing parents with a sample of their child’s DNA that can be preserved for up to 80 years.  The Child Safety Journal includes an audio and digital video of each child. 

 

Nurses from the Fresno County EOC Head Start and student nurses from CSU Fresno assisted in taking DNA samples. Several area organizations offered health and safety information during Spring into Safety Day.  They included Fresno Police, Fresno Police Activities League, Sheriff’s Foundation for Public Safety, Boy Scouts of America Sequoia Council and Fresno Fire Department. 

 

The Community Room facility in Pacific Service CU’s Fresno branch is available for use by community groups.  Interested groups should contact the Credit Union at (559) 437-5420 about the Community Room.

Pacific Service sponsors Fresno CPR Saturday

 

Fresno, CA, March 13, 2006 – Pacific Service Credit Union is a corporate sponsor of the American Red Cross CPR Preparedness Saturday on March 18.  Free CPR training and important lifesaving skills will be provided to registered participants at various locations throughout Fresno and Madera.

Pacific Service Credit Union sponsors Kids Day

Fresno, CA, March 09, 2006 – Pacific Service Credit Union is a “Big Kid” sponsor of the 19th annual Kids Day on March 14, benefiting Children’s Hospital Central California.  More than 3,500 volunteers from 20 Central Valley communities will sell a special Kids Day edition of The Fresno Bee to raise funds for the Hospital. 

“As a member of the Fresno community, we are delighted to be a sponsor of Kids Day for the sixth consecutive year,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “We are glad to support Children’s Hospital, which provides pediatric medical care to more than 100,000 children throughout Central California each year.”

 

Children’s Hospital Foundation Director Naomi Strom appreciates the generous support from corporate citizens like Pacific Service CU.  “The Credit Union has contributed more than $30,000 to the Kids Day fundraising efforts since 2001,” she explained.  “Proceeds from the sale of the newspapers go directly to pediatric health care services and programs at Children’s Hospital. Our community partners make these vital health services possible for families who cannot afford healthcare.”

Pacific Service Credit Union provides computers for youth program

 

Walnut Creek, CA, February 6, 2006 – Pacific Service Credit Union has donated $9,750 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland.  The funds were given to the Library Learning Center and Teen Center Lab at the Anna Marie Whalen Clubhouse to purchase 13 personal computers.

 

“The Whalen Clubhouse provides the young people of East Oakland with opportunities to augment their education using the resources of the Learning Center and Teen Lab,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “As a member of the Alameda County community, we take great pride in supporting programs focused on affording low-income, at-risk children with the means to develop the skills necessary to do well in life.”

Pacific Service Credit Union helps PAL programs 

 

Fresno, CA, January 24, 2006 Pacific Service Credit Union has provided funds to Fresno Police Activities League (PAL) for programs targeting underserved youth in the Fresno community.  The programs, for children ages 7 to 14, include Baby Think It Over, Images, 1 By 1 Leadership and youth camp.

 

“Fresno PAL programs equip at-risk youth with positive role models, education and skills to pave the way for success in school and life,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “We are glad to partner with PAL to make a difference in the lives of more than 400 young people in our community.”

 

Baby Think It Over is an eight-week pregnancy prevention program for 12 to 14 year-olds that presents the emotional, physical and financial ramifications of becoming a teen parent.  The year-long Images program builds confidence and self-esteem.  The 1 By 1 Leadership is a mentoring program at two inner-city schools.  The Credit Union’s donation also provided craft supplies for PAL’s youth camp. 

 

“We appreciate the generosity of Pacific Service Credit Union,” stated Diane Escareno of Fresno PAL.  “Their support allows us to offer community-based intervention programs to our youth as an alternative to drugs and gangs.”

Pacific Service Credit Union gives back to the community

 

Walnut Creek, CA, January 11, 2006 – Pacific Service Credit Union began 2005 with $150,000 designated for corporate philanthropy.  When the year ended, the Credit Union had reached its goal of contributing every penny to help the underserved in 12 Northern California counties.  Since 2001, the Credit Union’s Community Involvement program has touched more than 160,000 lives and surpassed $650,000 in giving.

 

“We consider it a privilege to do business in each county we serve, but we also feel we have a responsibility as an organization to give back,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “The Community Involvement program demonstrates our commitment to making a difference as a corporate citizen of the community.”

 

Since the Community Involvement Program’s launch five years ago, Pacific Service CU has donated to several charitable organizations within its field of membership.  Targeted areas of giving include low-income and at-risk children, elder financial abuse, American Red Cross, credit unions serving low-income communities and employee volunteer recognition.      

 

Throughout 2005, Pacific Service CU gave more than $75,000 to local programs of national organizations, including American Red Cross, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, American Lung Association, Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA, Head Start and Salvation Army.

Pacific Service Credit Union warms hearts with hot meals

 

Walnut Creek, CA, January 4, 2006 – A donation from Pacific Service Credit Union will ensure that hot meals keep coming out of Open Heart Kitchen.  Pacific Service CU has donated more than $2,800 to Open Heart Kitchen’s Hot Meal program for low-income families in the Tri-Valley communities of Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore.  The donation will provide nearly 2,000 free meals, served Tuesday through Friday at three locations in Livermore and Pleasanton.  

 

“Every week, Open Heart Kitchen volunteers prepare and serve 3,000 meals to feed the hungry,” said Tom Smigielski, president of Pacific Service CU.  “As a member of the Alameda County community, we are delighted to support the worthwhile efforts of Open Heart Kitchen to lend a helping hand to those in need, especially during the cold weather months.”

 

Executive Director Carol Beddome described the Hot Meal program as a “safety net” for disadvantaged families.  “We are so grateful to community partners like Pacific Service Credit Union.  Many of our guests need just a little help to get through a tough time.  The Credit Union’s gift provides that support to people who are struggling to make ends meet,” stated Beddome.
