Summer Travel Plans?

Jenna, Vice President, Operations

During the summer months we see a big spike in out-of-area travel.  I know a lot of planning goes into making a trek out of state or out of the country.  As part of your planning, remember to let us know when you’ll be traveling out of your typical spending area to reduce the risk of being flagged by fraud detection software used by Visa and other processors.

We use state-of-the-art Visa fraud detection to identify potentially fraudulent activity.  The system analyzes your debit and credit card spending patterns over time.  If our systems see anything unique or out-of-the ordinary, we may call you to verify that your card is in your possession and the spending is authorized.   For example, if your spending typically only happens in the San Francisco area and suddenly we’re seeing reports of increased spending in the Los Angeles area, we may reach out to you.

You will be asked to verify ONLY the last four digits of your social security number.  DO NOT provide any other personal information like your credit card number, your financial institution or your account number.

If we can’t get in touch with you, depending on the risk level, your card may be temporarily blocked until we can speak to you.  If we try to call your home and you’re on vacation, we will not be able to make contact.  For this reason, it’s very important that you contact us to provide the best way to reach you.  This could be your cell phone number, your email address, or another way that we can get in touch with you and verify that your spending is authorized.

Here are a few contact numbers that you may want to stash in the back of your suitcase:
