At Pacific Service Credit Union, we have great affinity for the communities we serve. As a good corporate citizen, we believe it is our responsibility to give back. Here are the 15 non-profits that have received our support in the first half of 2012.
Shih Yu-Lang Central YMCA: Culinary Education Program Sponsorship, San Francisco
The Shih Yu-Lang YMCA serves low-income, at-risk, youth living in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco with educational and enrichment programs. The Culinary Education Program focuses on the preparation of well-balanced meals, catering events, the cultivation of a community garden and learning the skills necessary to secure employment in the food service industry. The credit union has supported various programs at Shih Yu-Lang YMCA since 2005.
Easter Seals of Fresno: Walk with Me Sponsorship
Easter Seals of Fresno holds an annual walk event to benefit children and adults with disabilities. The credit union has supported a variety of programs at Easter Seals of Fresno since 2005.
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Bay Area: Walks to Cure Diabetes Sponsorship
Since 2001, the credit union has been a sponsor of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Bay Area. The mission of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes and associated complications through research. In 2011, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation raised $1,400,000 for diabetes research through Walk events. More than 80% of funds raised go to diabetes research and research-related education.
Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa County: Purchase food needed for daily hot meals
Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa County provides weekday hot meals to needy individuals and families. To serve those in need, donations of food items come from partner food organizations; in addition, Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa County must purchase food to provide a complete and nutritious daily meal. Since 1983, over 4 million hot meals have been served with the support of thousands of volunteers and donors. The credit union has supported Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa County since 2010.
Tri Valley Velo (TVV) Bike Race
For the past two years, Pacific Service CU has sponsored the TriValley Velo cycling team raising money and increase awareness of physical fitness at local schools. The sponsorship also supports the Best Buddies mentoring program that works with disabled middle and high school students cope and overcome their disabilities.
San Francisco Deputy Sheriffs’ Foundation (SFDSF) Back to School Program
Since 2004, Pacific Service Credit Union has supported the SFDSF Back to School Program. Their event assists low-income, at-risk children in acquiring school supplies – backpacks, clothing, pencils, pens, binders and more. The goal for 2012 is to help 300 disadvantaged children.
Lindsay Wildlife Museum – Animals in the Classroom
Pacific Service CU has supported the Lindsay Wildlife Museum “Animals in the Classroom” program since 2002 to help connect people with wildlife. Their scholarship outreach program enables the Museum to provide educational presentations to schools with low-income and/or at-risk students.
Children’s Miracle Day
Pacific Service CU, along with other California credit unions participated in the 2012 Children’s Miracle Day program in Sacramento benefitting the Children Miracle Network Hospitals. Funds raised go directly to providing care for children at Miracle Hospitals, much like the Children’s Hospitals in Oakland and Fresno, where they receive treatment without regard for the ability to pay for services provided.
Fresno Police Department – SW Neighborhood Watch Program
Pacific Service CU supports the Fresno SW Police Department’s Neighborhood Watch program. The community outreach program works with low-income children to reinforce positive living, improve relations with law enforcement officers and encourage community spirit.
Marine Mammal Center – Whale Bus Program
Pacific Service CU has supported the Whale Bus Program since 2004 bringing marine science education to pre-kindergarten through 12th grade schools in disadvantaged areas. Employees have also volunteered their time at the Center.
American Red Cross Bay Area Save-A-Life Saturday
Pacific Service CU has sponsored Bay Area American Red Cross event for the past 10 years. This free event is open to the public at 16 training locations around the Bay Area where Red Cross personnel teach life-saving CPR techniques, rescue breathing, care for choking victims, emergency preparedness and provide information about 911 emergency services.
St. Vincent de Paul of Pittsburg
Pacific Service CU is proud to support St. Vincent De Paul of Pittsburg who distributes food to 2,000 needy individuals and families. Groceries to provide well-balanced meals are delivered by volunteers weekly.
Children’s Hospital of Central California: Kids Day 2012
Pacific Service CU has supported the Children’s Hospital of Central California’s Kids Day since 2001. A Fresno Bee special edition is sold to benefit the Hospital which provides medical treatment, regardless of the family’s ability to pay, to over 100,000 children who live throughout Central California.
Elder Financial Protection Network (EFPN)
Since 2003, the credit union has been an Advocate partner of EFPN. EFPN is a non-profit partnership of financial institutions, adult social services and law enforcement agencies working to prevent the financial exploitation of California’s elderly and dependent adult population through training, workshops and public awareness efforts.
Diabetic Youth Foundation
Pacific Service CU has supported DYF to improve the quality of life for children, teens and families affected by diabetes. The Foundation provides education and recreation to foster personal growth, knowledge and independence.
