What is a credit union?

A credit union is a not-for-profit financial co-operative where people with similar backgrounds (like employer, type of work, or geographical area) can deposit and borrow money. Credit unions do make money, but return part of their profit back to their members in the form of lower loan rates, higher deposit rates and lower fees.
